BORN TO BE KING...
Some Men Have Kingliness Thrust Upon Them
knew I was different even when I was a kid,' says Arthur, sitting back with a cigarette in his hand.
' I had dreams about the Dark Ages that I didn't understand, about mystical things that made so sense. So I
just ignored them all.'
As the years passed the dreams continued but it wasn't until 1986 that Arthur realised his true role. As with so
many important changes in life it seemed oddly casual at the time.
'I was round at a friends squat and carving on a large piece of board - doodling if you like.
'I wrote King John in the middle of it - that was my nickname at the time - and all the numbers I'd had in my
life, national insurance, army number, that sort of thing.
'I passed it to a mate of mine and told him I was 'board' with life and laughed. He took the wood and read it
and said to me you're not King John, you're King Arthur. It was only then that I finally realised who I was.'
Taking the incident as a sign, Arthur trekked to Stonehenge, where he says he received a mystical sign which
proved to him that he was the reincarnation of King Arthur. A few days later he changed his name by deed poll
to Arthur Uther Pendragon.
